Laughing All The Way To The Bank

Usually I spend my isk faster than I can make it. If there was a unlimited faucet spewing isk into my wallet, I think I would still manage to spend it all. I love going shopping. “Oh, new ship. And I need a new jump clone to go with it. And matching implants. And how about some designer modules. And… and…” You get the idea. Girls in space are just like girls on the ground I guess.

So I’m so happy to stumble across EVE Bank. I am aware of the scams and problems with banking on EVE in the past. Regulation has always been an issue where there is no oversight. Several different people have commented on it in the past. Massive wrote a piece about it and Eve Tribune covered it in their interview of CSM candidate LaVista Vista [A member of the EVE Bank staff]. Perhaps one of the best endorsements comes from the near legion of imitations and obvious scams. Dynasty Bank is another option currently out there offering investment services, including long-term Certificates of Deposit that have insanely high rates [~10%]. And for what appears to be obvious scams, the standard deposit character for EVE Bank “EBANK Ricdic”, has several near copies ["EBANK Ricdik", "EBANK RIDDIC", "EBANK Ridic"] hoping you’ll mistype and send them money instead.

Even with all of the issues surrounding it, I think there is still a valid point to be made for banking in EVE. As has been mentioned many times over, there is no guarantee that it’s not all a scam. It wouldn’t be the first and it certainly won’t be the last. However, as I try to put my money to work, I’m also looking at areas where I don’t have to be involved 100%. My time is also valuable, and being able to earn even 1.5% compounded daily is more than worth it for a portion of my isk. I don’t put it all in, I still need to be able to shop. But I’m a proud EBANK investor. My 70 million won’t make or break their endeavor nor mine, but it is still nice to see it grow in my account. I now have an additional 200k that for all intents and purposes, I just allowed to come to me. I consider the whole deal a rain day investment that may or may not be there when I retire, but will be candy/cake/icing if it is.

I would encourage anyone with extra isk to consider investing some of it with EBANK. I would strongly encourage anyone who considers investing with EBANK to review and investigate EBANK as they would any investment in EVE. Is it a scam? Maybe. Do they currently deliver on their promises and your investments? Yes.

On Communication and Confluence

Something I have been meaning to do for awhile now is get some of the links around the blog updated as well as do some general housekeeping. It seems I never have enough time to fly my ship, train my skills, chat with my friends, write a new post and also update the way things are displayed. I am proud that I’ve been able to keep the jetcan prices updated on a weekly basis and managed to get a post out every now and again.

On the side I’ve added a list of women who play EVE and also post their thoughts about it. For now I’ve titled it EVE is a Woman’s World, although I might rethink and or redesign that. I fully reserve the right to change my mind about anything, including whether or not I will change my mind. The current roster of Pod Pilotess Posters includes:

I’ve linked them all on the right as well as their most recent post. At some point I’ll work it up into a stand alone page as well. If I’ve missed your wonderful woman’s perspective [open call for the women of EVE to blog], please let me know. I think there is a lot of potential that isn’t being tapped. Perhaps we need our own PPPP [Pod Pilotess Poster Pak] to compliment CrazyKinux‘s EVE BlogPack. It’s something to think about.

The header now sports rotating images of various faction flags as well as some EVE screenshots. Many thanks to Dmian and his great work on the racial/faction flags.

Finally, looking forward, I am working on collating some of the information and links that I’ve collected about flying around New Eden. I’ll try to categorize it by profession and comment on the veracity of each item. Keep Flying.

Making the Connection

I wanted to take a quick look at some of the connections that are being made around the EVE universe. It is wonderful that a lot of pilots have been getting their thoughts together and putting them down in type for the rest of us to learn from. For just a small sampling, we’ve added a list of them on the right under the heading “EVE Blogs”. It is exciting to see all of the people with varied feelings and experiences about flying in New Eden.

Speaking of connections, the first outside connections have been made to my own experience logs here at Our EvE. Thanks and kudos out to CrazyKinux for speed linking us this week as an addition to the EVE blogosphere. The number of blogs is daunting and trying to keep up with even a portion of them can be overwhelming. It is great that we have someone like CK keeping them all under his watchful eye. ;)

We’re still a young communique and don’t have much in the way of readership yet. But we are beginning to link in to others in the hopes that the greater EVE community is served by it. I know we’ve all learned something from reading about someone else’s experiences in flying around the universe.

Mining for Players

This is a topic that I’ll probably come back to at some point. Apparently at somepoint in my career, I made the following statement to a good friend. “I am that most dreaded of MMO players, the care bear.” I tend to upset the natural order of things by needlessly throwing resources at things that could be better put use wiping the virulent infection of my fellow humans from the universe. I constantly waste isk, time and other things to put people that I hardly know into new ships, get them started training new skills, help them get set-up for mining/research/learning/pvp/pve/et cetra.

Case in point: Today I happened across a young Caldari pilot fresh into the SAK and had an overwhelming desire to just throw help at him. He really didn’t seem to know a PDS from an SPR but that only further spurred me to fill his wallet with my isk. To top it all off, he was genuinely interested in learning the game and getting over the learning curve. I almost couldn’t contain my enthusiasm at finding someone so ready to play the game and learn the ins-and-outs of a complex system like EVE.

We talked a length about skill training, mining, missioning and the general accumulation of wealth and power. In the end, I gave him over half of my net isk worth in new skills and equipment that would have taken him a couple of weeks to obtain on his own. I pointed him toward such perennial favorites as EveMon and EFT so that he could begin planning for his own future and make educated decisions [or at least ask educated questions]. By downtime I had made a new friend, had helped a new player and lost over half my isk. Sheesh, what was I thinking :D

Getting In

For some unfathomable reason, I’ve had a lot of trouble getting jacked into my pod lately. I’ve tried tracing the route and I’ve doubled checked all of my links and settings. Whatever it is that is causing this, it is very annoying. I have had two full days to be in space mining, missioning, salvaging and building. I get tired of the problems that I cannot control. I’m not sure what causes it.

Networking

I was looking around at all of the wonderful resources out there for pod pilots. Not a week goes by that I don’t stumble across something new or a new way of looking at the world that we fly in. Everything from training, ship loadouts, and missions to philosophy of play, background stories and general thoughts on pilots progress. I probably fall into the last category more than others.

I was looking at CrazyKinux’s wonderful blog site and even wanted to link in, but couldn’t get the captcha for his comments to work. I’m sure it’s something on my end but it’s frustrating. I’d like to see this blog used more and shared more. It will have to go on the agenda I suppose.

Corporate Communications Collective

I’m not sure if anyone would be interested in a corporate blog, but since I had the room I thought I would go ahead and give it a go. I’d like to provide a place for my fellow corp-mates and I to post articles and information about flying, living and working in EVE. I think we already have some of the best pilots in the area and am happy to be associated with them. I’ve heard some negative comments about previous incarnations of the DSGE and have been happy to report that none of those considerations still exist.

Let’s continue to work together to create a great place for all of us.
